Product Description

This Sterling Necklace features a lovely piece of Stone Stack Slag, aka Iron Age Turquoise. I found the slag in the Gale River near where I live, but it could have come from any one of the countless stone stack iron furnace sites across North America and Europe that were the state of the art technology 200 years ago. I love the organic shapes that I find, but do some basic lapidary work to polish them and make them settable. I also do my own version of kintsugi on certain pieces. Kintsugi is the Japanese art of celebrating breaks and imperfections by fixing them with gold. In my case, I use gold mica powder in a resin base to highlight irregularities in the surface of the piece. This piece is set in Sterling and surrounded by Sterling vine that I fabricate. It measures 3/4" wide x 1" tall and is suspended from an oxidized 18" Sterling chain.
